About Us

The mission of Montessori Elementary at Highland Park is to cultivate ambitious, fearless learners through intellectually-stimulating, interactive experiences that awaken curiosity, nurture advanced thinking, and promote independence.

Opening in August 2021, Montessori Elementary at Highland Park is a co-educational, public charter school that offers an educational program for children, PreK 3 through 5th grade. Located in the heart of the Highland Park community, the school serves families from all backgrounds and provides a dynamic, participatory environment that integrates Montessori childhood education with STEAM experiential learning.

According to the American Montessori Society, the Montessori educational system “is a child-centered framework that recognizes the child as both naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating the learning process when provided with a supportive, thoughtfully prepared environment that includes sequential, hands-on learning materials.”

Developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, the Montessori approach is an educational blueprint for cultivating confident, agile thinkers by allowing children to independently discover and problem-solve.
